The General Assembly Scholarship Program is administered in accordance with the provisions of Section 5/30-9 of the School Code of Illinois. Sen. Althoff awards Illinois General Assembly Scholarships to students who have been active in public and civic affairs and who are in need of financial assistance. The awards are applicable at the following Illinois state universities.
•    Chicago State University
•    Eastern Illinois University
•    Governors State University
•    Illinois State University
•    Northeastern Illinois University
•    Northern Illinois University
•    Southern Illinois University, Carbondale
•    Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville
•    Southern Illinois University, School of Medicine
•    University of Illinois, Chicago
•    University of Illinois, School of Medicine
•    University of Illinois, Springfield (formerly, Sangamon State University)
•    University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
•    Western Illinois University

Both graduate and undergraduate level study are eligible.  However, scholarships are for tuition only for a single academic year.

QUALIFICATIONS
   1. Be a resident in the 32nd Senate District. Please verify residency HERE, or by contacting the County Clerk's Office at 815-334-4000.

   2. Acceptance at the university of one's choice.

   3. Evidence of activity in public and civic affairs.

   4. Relative financial need among applicants.


Sen. Althoff has established a Scholarship Committee made up of educators from throughout McHenry County to review all applications and select the scholarship recipients.

There is no limit on how many times an individual may apply, should they not receive one of the scholarships this year.

APPLICATION PROCESS
To be eligible for a General Assembly Scholarship, a student must complete the application (which can be downloaded here), complete a 300 word essay, obtain two letters of reference and submit their official transcriptions under one cover prior to the deadline.

Please be sure to verify that you are a resident of the 32nd Senate District.

DEADLINE
Applications must be postmarked by or received no later than Sunday, March 28, 2010. (Please note if delivering in person, the District Office is closed on Saturdays and Sundays).

Please note, no applications will be acccepted after Sunday, March 28, 2010.

Notification of scholarship awards will be made prior to the end of the school year.
