|
SPRINGFIELD, IL – High-school students will soon have a new program to help them get ready for college and the Illinois Department of Public Health will expand its newborn screening program, under legislation signed into law by the Governor during the week of Nov. 5-9.
Senate Bill 858 creates a three-year College and Career Readiness Pilot Program to help high school students prepare academically for college. Over a period of three years, the Illinois Community College Board will work with 12 community colleges and its participating high schools to analyze college courses, develop a Readiness Prescription for each high school student, create “College and Career Readiness Teams” to develop intervention strategies, and then test each student the following year to assess progress and college readiness. These students will also be monitored and assisted through college. |
