The Illinois Poison Center (IPC) has recently profiled the alarming trend of children ingesting laundry detergent pods. The agency has reported 26 calls on toddlers eating laundry detergent pods since the first reported case in March.

Children who ingest the pods, often confusing them for candy, can suffer from vomiting, throat irritation and coughing as well as more severe symptoms such as, drowsiness, difficulty breathing and coma.
