June is "Leave No Child Inside" month in the State of Illinois - a time to encourage young people to put down their video game controllers, log off the Internet and enjoy the great outdoors. To help celebrate, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Chicago Wilderness and others will be hosting free family fun events to help connect kids with nature. Children can participate in such activities as archery, climbing, fishing, bird watching, fort building and learning how to set up a campsite.

Area families can participate in the following activities:

Moraine Hills State Park (McHenry)
Family Fishing and Nature Exploration at McHenry Dam
June 11 (noon - 3:30 pm)

Volo Bog State Natural Area (Ingleside)
Trees are the Tops
June 12 (noon - 3:30 pm)
