Illinois families have the opportunity to save a few extra dollars on their children’s school supplies, as a new back-to-school sales tax holiday runs from August 6th through the 15th.

During that period, qualifying items will be immune from the state portion of the sales tax, which is 5 percent of the 6.25 percent sales tax rate.

The exemption applies to various articles of clothing and footwear (if the price does not exceed $100) and general school supplies.
