SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Sen. Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) today announced the final General Assembly Scholarship recipients from her district. Due to the state’s poor fiscal condition, this will be the last year the Senator’s office takes part in the program.
“I regret the need to end my office’s participation in this very worthy program,” Althoff said. “I am very proud it has allowed dozens of students from our area the opportunity to attend college. However, given the tremendous fiscal challenges facing the State of Illinois, we need to be directing our tax dollars toward only the most pressing priorities, such as education, frontline social services and public safety.”
According to Illinois law, each member of the General Assembly is allowed to select students from their districts to receive a free scholarship to state-supported universities. Sen. Althoff’s scholarship recipients are selected by an independent committee which verifies and evaluates their applications.
