As the summer heats up, so do energy bills. Fortunately low-income residents are eligible for some help, courtesy of the LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance) Program.

The LIHEAP Program provides a one-time payment of up to $150 to eligible households for their energy bills. The amount of the payment is determined by income, household size, fuel type and geographic location. LIHEAP will make electric bill payments on behalf of seniors, the disabled, famileis with children younger than 36 months of age, and people with medical conditions that would be aggravated by the extreme heat.

The program started July 6 and runs until funds are exhausted. For more information, call 1-800-571-CEDA to find out where to apply, or visit www.cedaorg.net.
