SPRINGFIELD, IL – Legislation targeting distracted drivers and enhancing environmental protections were among the bills passed out of the Senate by Sen. Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) this week.

Althoff is the Chief Senate Sponsor of House Bill 72, a measure prohibiting drivers from using wireless telephones at any time when driving in a school speed zone or highway construction zone. The legislation does not apply to drivers who are using their phones for emergency purposes, such as calling the police or emergency personnel. Drivers who use their wireless telephone in a voice activated mode are also exempt.
