SPRINGFIELD, IL – Helping McHenry County preserve local farmland is the goal of new legislation sponsored by State Sen. Pamela Althoff (R-Crystal Lake). Althoff has sponsored Senate Bill 286, a measure giving county voters the opportunity to set up a farmland preservation fund to help local authorities protect farmland.

“This measure is all about putting the fate of farmland preservation squarely in the hands of local voters and county officials,” Althoff said. “Voters would be able to set up a new fund that allows counties to purchase easements to protect farmland from sprawl. In recent year, farmland in McHenry County has disappeared at an astonishing rate, and this legislation is one way we can help combat that.”
